Union of Palmares
(Serra da Barriga)

The Quilombo dos Palmares Memorial Park , established in 2007 on a plateau at the top of the Serra da Barriga mountain range, was listed as a national heritage site by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage ( IPHAN ) in 1985 and by Mercosur in 2017. The buildings, with their rammed earth walls, thatched roofs, and earthen floors, along with the inclusion of indigenous huts, reinforce the multicultural references of Palmares, such as the ancestral territorial occupation also marked by indigenous peoples. In addition, there are spaces for cultural presentations and viewpoints for contemplating the beautiful views.

Quilombola gastronomy

Quilombola cuisine is intrinsically linked to slavery in Brazil, its base formed by natural ingredients: cassava, corn, beans, coconut, in addition to spices and palm oil, extracted from the oil palm tree. Using these raw materials, the gastronomy produces several well-known dishes: beiju, tapioca, curau, pamonha, acarajé, baião de dois, fish and shrimp in coconut, as well as various cakes and desserts, whose flavors evoke our ancestry.
